- FT. WAYNE, Ind. April 28 (U. P).~The army’s silver star, award8d posthumously to Sgt. Leland S. Sharp, was presented to his widow,

at formal ceremonies yesterday at Camp Thomas Scott. Col. W. 8. Carr, camp commandant, presented the medal, which was recommended by the brigadiergeneral's office for gallantry in action. ; ; : Sgt. Sharp was mortally wounded near Buna mission, New Guinea, last December while participating in an attack against Japanese posi-

tions. He was at the head of his section when he was wounded by enemy grenade and rifle fire. Sgt. Sharp ordered his men to abandon their positions to protect” themselves, but he .failed to fall back himself.

MOSCOW, April 28.—The Russian army has evolved two types of aerial blockade in its battles with the German luftwaffe. The first is against encircled troops, which found the highest development at Stalingrad and about which additional details are now known. The second is used in conjunction with localized ground attacks of a type] which are characteristic this spring. Attack on Ground

Where possible, planes are attacked on the ground. There apparently has been much of this type of activity along the Donets and in Kuban this spring. Red army circle were constantly attacked. Sometimes it was possible even to use long-range artillery against them. The problem of keeping the Soviet fighters clear of their own ack-ack was troublesome during the early days of the Stalingrad blockade, Denisov, says, but it was soon solved. The ack-ack fired a barrage aimed to scatter the Nazi groups which then were attacked by fighters.
