Hoosiers Ready for Training

Before being sent to combat assignments, the men will receive additional advanced training at post-graduate flying schools where they will fly the types of fighters or bombers they will use when they meet the enemy. ates. The 10 flying enters include Aloe, Foster, Brooks, Moore and Ellington fields, the Pampa, Lubbock, Blackland and Eagle Pass flying schools, all in Texas, and the new advanced flight school at Altus, Okla.

Local Flier Picked For U. S. Transport Overseas.
Capt. Frank M. Herdrich
A HOOSIER who achieved a childhood ambition to fly has been designated as a pilot of planes to transport supplies and personnel on foreign routes overseas. Capt. Franklin Milroy Herdrich, 33-year-old native of Lebanon, veteran American Airlines pilot has been given 'that assignment, After attending grade school and Shortridge high. school here, he took” up pilot training and made his first solo flight at Hoosier airport here in 1929. He barnstormed, became an aviation instructor and in 1936 became a flight officer for American Airlines. Now he is a “million miler” with 1,569,375 flying miles to his credit. He was chosen to help out America’s transport contract because of outstanding ability. Capt. Herdrich is a member of the Air Line Pilot's association and Air Reserve association. His parents, Mr. and Mrs. O. C. Herdrich, live at 3162 Capitol ave. His home is now in Willow Springs, Ill, but his family may move here, airline officials said.
