MOSCOW, April 16 (U. P.).—The ‘Official Soviet news agency Tass charged today that the Germans, rather than the Russians, slaughtered Polish war prisoners in the Smolensk area. “The German Fascist reports on this subject leave no doubt whatsoever as to the tragic fate of former Polish war prisoners who in 1941 were engaged in building work in areas west of Smolensk and together with many Soviet people residertts

FORESEES POST-WAR ARMY OF JOBLESS

NEWARK, N. J, April 16 (U. P.). . =The end of the war will create a depression in which 17,000,000 work- - ers will be “out of work overnight,” according to Senator Millard E. Tydings (D. Ind.). Tydings, speaking at the annual State Chamber of Commerce din- ~ ner last night, said the nation’s ‘economy . would be disrupted additionally by. the return of 10,000,000 men from the armed services, who ~ will be seeking jobs. “Of the 11,000,000 men now in the armed" services, approximately 10,000,000: will return to civilian life with job prospects very doubtful,” he said. Tydings said the government ~ oould forestall the post-war crisis by making plans now eliminating federal aid to industry.
