CONFERENCE ON EDUCATION SET

Eighth Annual . Meeting.

The eighth annual state conference of the Indiana Council on Religion in Higher Education will be held Saturday, April 17, at the Indianapolis Athletic club. Approximately 300 persons are expected to attend the all-day meeting which will include addresses by several Indianapolis citizens and responses by college presidents and professors concerning the place of religion in higher education. Dr. ‘Georgia E. Harkness, professor at’ Garrett Biblical institute at Evanston, Ill, and widely known author of religious works, will speak at the luncheon. Her subject will be “Religion in Higher Education and the Peace.” Fermor S. Cannon of Indianapolis will preside. Dr. Harkness is a graduate of Cornell university and received her A. M. and Ph. D, degrees from Boston university. She also studied at Harvard and Yale universities and at the Union Theological seminary in New York. While teaching at Boston universify and Mt. Holyoke college, she was a. delegate to the world church conferences at Oxford, Amsterdam and Madras.

BURGLAR INVADES HOME OF PASTOR

A burglar last night ransacked the house of Dr. George Arthur Frantz, 5433 N. Delaware st., pastor of the First Presbyterian church, obtaining two Masonic rings, one of whieh was valued as a keepsake, Dr. Frantz said when he and Mrs. | Frantz returned home they found a! door window smashed. He said one of the rings was inset with a half-| carat diamond. A suitcase also was stolen. Investigation is being conducted by Clifford F. Beeker, chief of police. and William H. Remy, president of the board of public safety.

SURRENDERS GUN, FREED NEW YORK, April 9 (U. P.).— Mrs. Mary McMeekin, 34, was freed of criminal charges and commended by a magistrate for turning over a pistol: to police because she feared: she would shoot her husband.
