Ribbentrop Changed Mind Of Mussolini on Peace, Berlin Hints.

LONDON, March 2 (U.P)— Benito Mussolini was reported today to have promised Adolf Hitler, through Hitler's foreign minister, Joachim von Ribbentrop, that he would send ‘several more divisions of Italians to Russia, and order general civil mobilization in Italy to provide labor for axis war plants. A dispatch reaching Zurich from Berlin said German government circles were “frankly and honestly” satisfied with the results of Ribbentrop’s conferences with Mussolini in ‘Rome. “It is well known that they have followed internal Italian develop-: ments with utmost attention since the allied landing in North Africa,” the dispatch said. “Now, after the impressions gained by Ribbentrop in Italy, they are firmly convinced that Mussolini is determined to

WASHINGTON, March 2 (U. P.)—Plant protection employees at the Chrysler Corp. Evansville, Ind, ordnance plant selected the United Automobile Aircraft and Agriculutural Implement Workers of America (C. I. O.) as their representative, the national labor lations board announced today. The election, held Feb. 18 and 19, showed 162 employees favoring the union and 27 opposed.

CLOTHING RUSH Axis Encourages Hoarding

In Face of OPA Attempt To Slow Buying.

‘WASHINGTON, March 2 (U. P). —Axis shortwave broadcasts beamed toward the United States are aiding rumors that encourage clothes hoarding, government officials believed today. ; War Information Director Elmer Davis, reiterating denials of impending clothes rationing, said persons hoarding clothing are “helping Hitler.” Officials revealed that German short-wave broadcasts recently have urged Americans to buy woolen underclothing, shoes and all other types of garments without delay “because clothes rationing will begin in the near future.” Such broadcasts frequenily are used by the axis as instructions to agents in this country, who thereupon circulate the false reports. These transmissions, officials said, were being examined here at a time when the office of price administration, alarmed by the flood of rumors of clothes rationing, had requested the federal bureau of investigation to see whether they could be traced back to fifth coluumn activities. A recent sharp increase in clothes buying was admitted by*Mr. Davis, who added: “Total war is fought on the civilian as well as on the military front; everything you do either helps or hurts the enemy when you buy more than you need now, you help Hitler.”
