Prices of women’s: and children’s clothing this spring will be approximately the same as last spring and summer, Indiana shoppers were assured today by state OPA officials.
The prices of such garments as dresses, suits, skirts, blouses, jackets are stabilized by issuance of OPA rules for retailers and wholesalers, effective as of last Wednesday, Dr. G. E. Warren, acting state OPA price officer said. : Previously, OPA had stabilized manufacturers’ prices for these garments and assured maintenance of quality standards, setting ceiling prices for producers of women’s and children’s outerwear, Dr. Warren said. This measure placed controls over mark-ups, selling prices and the minimum allowable costs of materials and labor that manufacturers are required to build into their garments. The new yegulation, Dr. Warren explained, also provides an over-all ‘ceiling rule which. prohibits the sale of any garments covered by the regulation in a price line which is higher than the highest price line

March, 1942, for the same class and size range of apparel Ceiling prices for apparel must be plainly marked on the garment or rosted in that part of the store where the garment is offered for sale. All garments which the sellers had in stock prior to Feb. 24 ‘may be sold at the previously established ceiling prices or may be re-priced under the new regulations, Retailers and wholesalers are not required to prepare new base: period records .in order to use the new pricing methods now set up, if they were in business during the base period of regulation 153. All necessary records were prepared under the preceding regulation. Under the new regulation, the fill-
ing of supplementary cost-of-living ‘commodity
statements: does not apply. : Retdilers and wholesalers who have failed to file under the old regulation are urged by Dr. Warren to do so with their local war price and rationing boards, where copies of the new regulation will be available as soon as they are released in Washington.
CHUNGKING, Feb. 26 (U. P.).— Generalissimo Chiang Kai-shek today broadcast an appeal to the people of Thailand (Siam) to revolt against Japanese occupation, pointing out that “the day for you to save Thailand is drawing near.” Even as Chiang spoke, ill-equipped Chinese troops were making small gains against the enemy along the 1400-mile front in China's interior. The news was more favorable than at any time since the Japanese began a new drive eight days ago to knock the Chinese out of the war. “The Thai army and people should oppose: Japanese forces through positive action while cooperating with tije Chinese armies,” Chiang asserted. He predicted that axis defeats

showdown.
