. STRATFORD, Conn., Feb. 12 (U. P.)—Fifty-three * girls, still unconvinced that their bosses
‘meant safety first when they for-
bade them to wear sweaters for
their own “protection,” returned
to their jobs at the Sikorsky aircraft plant today, in jackets. The sweater girls were sent home yesterday until they could make up their minds to wear regulation uniforms, slacks and jackets over blouses. Twenty-two girls who were wearing jackets walked out with them in sympathy. Their C. I. O. shop steward persuaded them to go back. They agreed to, “pending negotiations.”

" One Regiment Defeated It was the first major allied tri-
umph in New Guinea since the|
enemy was swept from the Papuan section last month, after a bitter struggle which cost the Japanese around 15,000 men. “This force is believed to have been about one regiment, normally around 2800 men, plus some engineers,” an army spokesman said. “Many of the 200 bodies counted yesterday were victims of allied artillery action along the Wanduma trail, southwest of Salamaua, on Tuesday and Wednesday. “Our forces also’ found a number of Japanese graves around Leahy’s farm, southeast of Wau.” Oth¢r Japanese casualties, includinig the wounded, were probably much greater than the number of abandoned dead, the communique said, while allied losses were “relatively light.”
