Woman's Viewpoint— h-

Its ‘Spinach’ Troubles

By MRS. WALTER FERGUSON Times Special Writer, THE ARMY CAN do miraculous things, but it’s stuck now. - It’ can’t get the boys to eat their spinach. This news will- cause millions of women to chuckle. They've been dealing with the same problem for a long while and I dare say some are glad to have; it turned over to the generals and the federal food consultants. These folks are} smart, and familiar with prop-§ er diet rules; but then so was mama.” We knew all along that the family should have green and yellow vegetables every day. We bought them regularly and cooked them in enticing ways. The domestic bottleneck was dad. He didn’t like spinach; wouldn't eal spinach; and that was that. Following his: example the kids grew restive, and often there was open revolt. - It seems now that

Popeye was born 10 years too late:

to help Uncle Sam in this crisis.

| THE LITTLE BOYS who Honize| him are under draft age, and their

big brothers never. swallowed the propaganda or the spinach. Instead of being indoctrinated by Father's protecting yells, they balked when the fodder was brought to the table. If the army finally confesses failure in this effort, I move we drop the whole thing. I've noticed that the youngsters who head spinach crammed down them regularly in their high chairs do not always grow up to be addicts. On the other hand, lots of men and women are so fond of it they don’t pind the sand that usually flavors This is the way I see it: Boys and men who are setting forth to fight should be released from the necessity of eating spinach, when they have an aversion to it; or anything else they dislike. Free mén should be allowed a choice. Let em take it or leave it alone.
