C., United States naval attache @ere, today flew doctors and medical supplies 600 miles across the Andes mountains to Uribia, on the Guajira Peninsula, Colombia, where a serious outbreak of malaria has developed. Upon arrival they learned that about 5000 of a populace of nearly 40,000 in the area had already succumbed to the disease. The doctors landed emergency malaria supplies and complete investigation equipment, including microcopes, slides and white mice for experimental purposes. The relief mission was formed after the Colombian ministry of work, hygiene and social welfare requested aid of the American embassy. - Geographic conditions dictated the flight, for airplanes offer the only quick and certain way -of reaching Uribia, principal town affected. ; This is the third time in recent months that Col. Johnson has flown help to fight epidemics in remote sections of Colombia. Six months ago he flew doctors into the jungles of southeastern Colombia to inoculate Indians and later took medical help to the southern part of the country to-investi-gate beri-beri conditions.

Emmons, military governor of the Hawaiian islands, will relinquish authority March 10 in 18 major civil functions, including criminal and civil judicial proceedings, The Hawaiian territory still 1s under martial law and the writ of habeas corpus still is suspended, but the territorial government has regained a majority of the civil functions it lost when it was put under martial law on Dec. 7, 1941, the day of the Japanese sneak attack on Pearl Harbor, by then Governor Joseph B. Poindexter.

Douglas MacArthur said today in his communique, The Dutch, flying American-built B-25 Mitchell medium bombers, attacked at 6000 feet, while the Australians, flying Hudson patrol planes, came in at around 3000 feet, and wrecked the Japanese headquarters, the harbor, barracks, storehouses and other installations.
