Students Do Buying
In addition to the acivities in schools, students will be encouraged to assist in familiarizing citizens with point rationing. They will] assist in the stores, and speak and present skits at organization meetings. Mr. Strickland pointed out that the instruction would be valuable to many students who do the family shopping. One study shows that elementary school children do more than 80 per cent of all family buying under one dollar, he said.
GOODWILL INDUSTRY REPORTS BUSY YEAR
Handicapped workers were giver 135,725 hours of employment during 1942 through the Indianapolis Goodwill Industries, the organization's annual report states. During the year, 38 individuals were placed in jobs outside Goodwill. The report was included in an announcement today of the organization’s annual meeting to be held at 12:15 p. m, Thursday in the Columbia club. A report of the community center’s work will be presented. In the announcement, Paul Buchanan, president, and Howard G. Lytle, executive secretary, said that the expansion of work in 1942 had been gratifying and that it was hoped to continue it throughout 1043.
Tax Office Open Late on Monday
OFFICES OF the gross income tax division, 141 S. Meridian st., will be open until 8 p. m. Monday night for the convenience of those who have not yet filed their annual gross income tax return for 1942, Gilbert K. Hewit, the director, said the arrangement had been made in keeping with the policy | of many Indianapolis stores of providing night service on that night. ; Ample facilities for handling thousands of taxpayers each day are provided, he said, and many are taking advantage of the arrangements which provide individual assistance and prompt service. He advised individuals to file their returns immediately and avoid a last minute rush. The deadline for gross income tax returns is Jan. 31.
