HOLLYWOOD, Jan. 9 (U. P)., — A federal court jury was locked up early today after deliberating for several hours on charges that songwriters Channing D. Lipton and Meyer P. Grace tried to extort $250,000 from film magnate Louis B. Mayer. Federal Judge Leon R. Yankwich instructed jurors to disregard a
long-standing - grudge between Lip-|:
ton and Mayer. In final arguments, defense attorneys said Lipton had become embittered over alleged blacklisting of his screen writer father by Mayer and had sought revenge through the extortion plot.

like good, ripping, wild westerns,
by Republic Pictures who've lost money-making western players of Western films have a place in almost every child’s life. At the neighborhood theater matinees, the kids love to applaud the hero and hiss the villain. I've seen adults forget their inhibitions and join in the fun. Although outlaws. run wild in the westerns, they are always brought to justice, and the moral ‘of the story is plain enough for for children to see. So, for all the ridicule heaped upon them by the sophisticates and psychia trists, westerns do serve a purpose. “Bells of Capistrano,” Autry’s last film will be shown at Fountain
