Author Who Marched With Gandhi to Talk On Country’s Problems.

Krishnalal Shridharani, author of “My India, My America,” will speak Saturday at 11 a. m. at the Indianapolis Town Hall in English theater. He will discuss “The Storm Over India.” Mrs. Hugh H. Hanna will introduce Dr. Shridharani and preside

Marched With Gandhi

Dr. Shridharani was born in the state of Bhavnagar, India; into the caste of vaishyas, or business and professional men. He was educated in native schools. In 1930 he was one of 60 men selected by Gandhi to accompany him on his famous march to the sea and Shridharani, with Gandhi, was arrested for civil disobedience and sentenced to three months in jail, He continued his studies at Rabindranath Tagore’s international university, where there were teachers from all over the world. His two American teachers added zest to his growing ambition to finish his education in the United States.

‘Studied at Columbia

He was awarded a scholarship at Columbia university, from which he has acquired three degrees. His writings on India ‘have been published in the New York Times and Current History.

In 1939, Shridharani published his first book in English, “War Without Violence,” a description of the theories and tactics of the movement led by Mahatma Gandhi. Two years later he wrote “My Indis, My America.” “Warning to the West,” his latest book, is a plan for world co-operation.

FIRST-AID GROUP TO HOLD PRACTICE

A practice session for first aiders of district 22 will be held at a meeting at 7:30 p. m. tonight at the Rhodius community center, Mrs. Rose Jayne of the emergency medical staff of the office of civilian defense will conduct the sesston, and first aiders nQt present will be replaced by those in attendance. They should bring bandages and wear slacks. The district’s casualty station has been organized and the personnel chosen.
