RADIO PROGRAMS

By VIRGINIA HATFIELD A NEW COMEDY-MYSTERY series, “Mr. and Mrs. North,” will replace “Adventures of the Thin Man” on the air tonight. The radio debut will be at 7 o'clock on 126 NBC stations including WIRE. Principal characters are Jerry and Pamela North, made famous by Frances and Richard Lockridge, who created them for 60 sketches in The New Yorker magazine. Later Mr. and Mrs. North were written into

six mystery books bythe Lockridges. They were a. Broadway hit in a Hay Sapied by Owen Davis and achieved national] popularity in a @& motion picture % starring Gracie Allen. Jerry North is ¥ apublisher of . mystery stories. Pamela has a nack for always being on the scene of a crime. » It is Pamela who usually manages to discover “whodunit” by her feminine quirks of mind. Her husband never succeeds. in understanding how such a naive woman is able to - outwit such master minds as his and those of the eminent detectives on the New York police force. ~The production will be directed ‘by S. James Andrews. Casts for the plays have not been announced. “The “Thin Man” had become a Wednesday night fixture in many homes. With all its murders and thrills, the program was never sordid. Whether or not Mr. and Mrs. North can take the place of Nick and Nora Charles remains to be seen. Here's hoping they do. Myself, I've always been a “Thin Man” fan. ~ ! 2 =n = MORE DRAMA TONIGHT: Christian” will supervise the transformation of an overweight and un- . attractive 15-year-old‘ girl into. a glamorous young lady during his 7:30 o'clock broadcast on WFBM. “Sandy’s Nose” is the title of the prize-winning script to be presented. As “Mayor of the Town,” Lionel Barrymore will ponder the problem | of what to do with an “Unsaintly “Bernard.” Presented with the mammoth pooch, the mayor will find the animal leading him into all sorts of difficulties. - “The Case of the Air-Tight Alibi” will confront “Mr. District .Attorney” on his 8:30 o'clock, WIRE program. A chap who vows he’ll commit a perfect crime or break a leg trying will challenge the D. A. The

3 - murderer will make it appear that

the killing took place while he was in a doctor’s office having a fractured leg set.
