Firehall F vankie Sinkwich Was Absent From Xmas Festivities, But He Won't Miss Rose Bowl
i.
’
By LEO H.
PETERSEN
United Press Sports Editor PASADENA, Cal, Dec. 25.—The Georgia football team received two
* Christmas presents today.
' Samta Claus in both cases was Coach Wally Butts. . First he substituted a single workout daily for the two-a-day drills which have kept the 40-odd man squad busy since its arrival Monday
for the Rose Bowl game against U. . Then, grouped around a Christ: thas tree in the lobby of the Huntington hotel, gifts which he purchased for the team, its coaches and trainers and their wives were distributed. There was a sombre note to the proceedings, for Frankie Sinkwich was missing. He was ordered to bed| yesterday because of the ankle he ‘twisted in practice Wednesday. The Georgia trainers decreed that he would have to stay off his feet for two or three days.
Missed Festivities
Although he missed the Christmas festivities, fireball Frankie won't miss the Rose Bowl. Butts said Frankie would take it easy from now on but that he definitely would be ready to start against U. C. L. A. in football's world series. - The All-American back didn’t particularly welcome the bed edict for he likes to be active He proved that in 1942 when he played most of the season with a broken jaw. He did all right, too. “A broken jaw couldn't keep me out and twisted ankle won't either,” 8 ch said. “I'll be as
{'. 8ood as new in a day or two.”
Everyone in the Georgia group from Coach Butts down shared
.Prankie’s optimism. Left tackle
Gene Ellenson expressed the sentiment of the players when he said: Don’t Worry
& “Don’t worry, Frankie will be out there if he has to use crutches. He's
‘that kind of a guy.”
Butts planned to send the squad
+ through a light drill this afternoon.
There will ‘be no more rough confact work, for he doesn’t want to take any further chances with injuries. From now on, Georgia's
_ Grills will be more or less of a
polishing up proposition.
" U. C. L. A. scheduled no work-
out today Coach Babe Horrell let
# his men off yesterday They went
through new offensive formations which they had been practicing since they defeated the University of Southern California to win the Rose Bowl assignment. The Bruins will work tomorrow afternoon instead.
Camilli Is Set On Raising Beef
LAYTONVILLE, Cal, Dec. 25. Pressure has been put on Dolph Camilli to get him to reconsider : his decision to retire from baseball. Camilli asserts that he may change his mind, but that if he
feels the same way in the spring he will not return. There are a
» number of reasons for his quit-
ting, the Brooklyn first baseman explains. - He has his family to think of. He can’t feel justified . in playing ball while the nation is -at war, adds that he can do more good producing beef on his ranch near lLaytonville, which requires “his attention. That, as he points “out, is esesntial.
"Bivins vs. Charles.
- CLEVELAND, Dec. 25 (U. P.).~— The country’s two outstanding light heavyweights, Jimmy Bivins of Cleveland and Ezzard Charles of Cincinnati, will meet here Jan. 7 in the second round of the elimination tournament to find an interim lightheavy champion, Promoter Larry Atkins announced yesterday.
SABOTEURS’ MONEY

* WASHINGTON, Dec. 25 (U. P.).— * Attorney General Francis Biddle today ordered the FBI to turn over to the treasury department the $174,588.62 in cash found on the eight Nazi saboteurs who were landed on the Long Island and Florida coasts ¢ Em # submarine. “This is a little Cheistmas present for Hitler,” Biddle “It will be delivered very shortly the form of ‘bullets. * The money" had been supplied to the saboteurs. by the German high command to aid them in carrying out their mission in this country.
Six of the saboteurs have been ‘elec-|

TIGHTEN DAIRY 600DS CEILINGS &
Order Doesn’t Affect the Housewife Yet, but Her
Turn Comes Next.
WASHINGTON, Dec. 25 (U. P.). —Dairy products will go under specific OPA dollars and cents price ceilings for wholesalers and pro= cessers on Dec. 30, but the order will make no difference to housewives- for it-does not afféct retail
prices. Butter, cheddar cheese, evapor-
milk are included in the order. The new maximum will reflect the average of the previous ceilings based on each individual sell- | i er’'s peak prices from ‘Sept. 28 to |B Oct. 2, 1942, the OPA said.
Retail Adjustments on Way
While last night’s order does not affect retail prices, housewives can look forward to early simplification of retail price controls on the four dairy products. The present retail ceilings also are based on the individual seller's peak Sept. 28-Oct. 2 maximum prices. These will soon be supplanted by specific margins for different classes of retailers handling the aforementioned products. However, the OPA promised that the retail prices on the average will remain unchanged. The OPA said the new levels are S| designed to encourage producers to meet agriculture department peak output goals and to assure equitabe distribution of these dairy products to consumers in all sections,
47 MEN OUT OF 1000 FOUND SYPHILITIC
CHICAGQ, Dec. 25 (U. P.). — Of every 1000 mien in the nation between the ages of 21 and 35, an es-
reported today in the Journal of the American Medical association by Dr. R. ‘A. Vonderlehr and Lida J. Usilton of Washington, D. C. This estimate is based on sero-
white and Negro men between these ages tested under provisions of the selective service act. The estimated.rate of prevalence of syphilis for the entire male Negro population of the United States in this age group is 272 per 1000. For the entire male white population it is an estimated 23.5 per 1000. More city men were found to be afflicted than men from rural areas. The rates rise sharply with increasing age. It was explained that this is due to a constantly accumulating backlog of uncured syphilis.
SENDS ALUMNI DUES FROM GUADALCANAL

Croll, class of ’40, now of the marines, who twice took time out from the battle of Guadalcanal to mail a check for his alumni association dues. The, latest payment—a check’ for $50—arrived yesterday and qualified the former Ridgeway, N. J., youth for lifetime membership.
