Sinkwich Is
: Enoug h to Give Georgia Win, » “But Bruins Disbelieve Figures
By ROBERT MELLACE Times Special Writer PASADENA, Dec. 21.—-8tatistics indicate that Frankie | | Sinkwich alone is enough to assure. Georgia victory over the University of California at Los Angeies in the classic Pasadena Rose Bowl, Jan. 1. The Jaw, as the Youngstown wonder boy is known at Athens, ace
¢ounted for more yardage during the regular season than all
players combined.
In racking up & new rec d, Sinkwich gained 2187 yards - ing and passing. U. C. L. As en: tire offense totaled 2136. Fortunately for supporters of the southern branch of the University of California, however, Babe Horrell. and his Bruins do not believe in football figures. This is & very good U. C..L. A. as it demonstrated against QOlara, Stdnford, Washington i Southern California, - bub Georgia is ‘enjoying the adventure " that goes with a transcontinental . trip to the ‘Rose Bowl and is the choice of this writer dnd many football men. 2 i More Than Sinkwich Georgia has vastly more than Sinkwich. Charley Trippi, his - sophomore understudy, for example, hes helped the Bulldog cause to the extent of 1239 yards. Wally Butts, wishing to take advantage of Trippi's talent, worked him at tailback witn his illustrious: mate gt full. Such a combination might take the field in the Arroyo Seco. Georgia's 18 a very orthodox _ single wingback team which cal like blazes as it proved agains De ery and in the final period of the Alabama thriller. Lamar Davis leads the eountry ih yard® gained receiving passes, outruns the swiftest secondaries. End George Poschier is also a Superlative pass-snagger. Big Bob Waterfield is the Sinkwich'of the U. C. L. A, althoiigh he ‘seldom earries. He blocks, passes, punts, calls plays. He is a remarkable defensive player, but will have his hands full in the combination of versatility which shakes Georgia backs 106se.
Has Break-Away Back
U. C. 1. A. has a break-away back in Al Solari and a lines cracking fullback in Ken Snelling. Offensively, Waterfield operates at quarterback in the mysterious QT formation, which is nothing fore than a Single wing behind a _ balanced line with the quarterback under the centér 4s in the T and the wingback parallel with the fullback and left half. Waterfield either handles the ball as do all T quarterbacks, or moves out to leave room for direét passes from center to the deeper baéks. Coach Hortell’s variety of defenses from 5 to 8-man lines may donfuse the Bulldogs temporarily, but the odds are that Georgia will get what it wants most in addition to more than $90,000 in eash—unanimous selection as the oollege team of the country.

WASHINGTON, Dec.21 (U.P) .— The cost of living for city families was 0.7 per cent more on Nov. 15 than on Oct. 15, Secretary of Labor Perkins reported. Miss Perkins ascribed most of the rise to stepped-up food e€osts and the new excise taxes which went into effeét Nov. 1. They hit railroad fares and such American favorites as cigarettes, cigars and telephone calls,
