raiding under difficult conditions, for continuous night activity is the aim of the bomber command unless the weather is absolutely prohibitive. The R. A: Fs last night raid on Turin, a week ago, was made through .clouds that hung over the continent to an altitude of 20,000 feet. Ice formed on wings of many bombers that night. A few German planes raided northeastern England last night, dropping bombs from which, it was said, there were casualties and some damage. One raider was destroyed.
BRITISH RAID AKYAB AREA AT LOW LEVEL
NEW DELHI, Dec. 18 (U., P.)— Continuing harassing air action against the Japanese in Burma, British Blenheim bombers have gone back to the Akyab area, attacking the enemy-occupied village of Rattedaung, it was announced today. An allied communique said the raiders’ dropped bombs yesterday from low levels, with many bursting in the center of the target. No Japanese air opposition was reported, and all planes returned. (Radio Berlin was heard in London today reporting that large Japanese reinforcements had reached Moulmein, Burmese port at the. mouth of the Salween river, and that there was great activity in the harbor at Rangoon where Japanese vessels continued to disembark large troop contingents including paratroopers. (Chinese military spokesmen said yesterday at Chungking that the Japanese were pouring troops into Burma from as far away as north China, but whether the Japanese intend a campaign against India or renewal of their stalled drive into south China is uncertain.)
