By UNITED PRESS Three games involving Indiana, Purdue and Notre Dame and two Indiana conference affairs tonight will open a heavily-laden week’s collegiate basketball schedule. Coach Branch McCracken’s Hooslers will entertain Ft. Knox, Butler will meet Purdue at Lafayette and Wisconsin will meet Notre Dame at South Bend in the big three division . on tonight's card. Wabash at Earlham and Anderson at Huntington will provide Indiana Conference competition. Indiana will be seeking to make it three straight in the game against the service .team, havnig defeated De Pauw and Wabash in previous -games. Ft. Knox, in its only- prior engagement, turned back De Pauw, . 48-317. Lead Kentucky
Jim Pair and Charles Covatti, former eastern professional hardwood stars, are expected to lead the Kentucky club. The South Bend attraction will bring together two unbeaten teams. * The Irish have won three times and their last win ‘was chalked up Saturday at the expense of Northwestern. Wisconsin has defeated Marquette and Camp Grant. Notre Dame will center its efforts on stopping Johnny Kotz, leading Western conference scorer who probably will lead the Badger offensive. Purdue and Butler will mark the 16th renewal of their basketball series tonight. Coach Ward Lambert’s club dropped a 45-16 decision to De Paul at Chicago stadium . Saturday night but the diminutive Boilermaker coach indicated he was satisfied with the showing of his green club against the experienced Illinois outfit.
Tied for Lead
Five teams, each with one vietory, are tied for leadership in the usually-complicated Indiana college conference title: chase. Leading are Wabash, Manchester, Indiana’ Central, Hanover and Butler. Earlham will be facing its first league opponent and playing its second game of the season in the meeting with Wabash. Huntington with a record of three wins in five starts, is favored against Anderson, defeated in three engagements thus

scalps. Yet all the boys do not own the comforting thought that their positions are frozen until victory is achieved. In Pittsburgh, for example, I hear from authoritative sources that Tommy Davies, now of Cleveland’s Western Reserve, is to be brought back to his alma mater, Pitt, as the successor to Charley Bowser.
All-America in 1918
Davies, a successful insurance man of Pittsburgh, was an allAmerica Panther halfback in 1918 under Glen Scobey Warner. He therefore escaped the stamp of Dr. Jock Sutherland, which for some strange reason is held in disdain by the powers that be of the institution for which the tall Scots~ man did so much in a football way. Although Ab Kirwan at Kentucky lost one-point games to Georgia and Alabama, current bowl attractions, the dope is that Wildcat big shots are about ready to liquidate the present football regime at Lexington. Speaking of coaches reportedly about to get the old heavo, I understand there was a Cleveland cry baby angle to Bill Edwards’ removal as head man of the Detroit professional Lions early in‘ the campaign. I have word that a certain group
formed Fred Mandel that they couldn’t win with Big Bill Edwards.
Behind Eight Ball
Owner Mandel, knowing no more about football than Alva Bradely does about baseball, listened instead of putting the magnificent brutes back in their places—behind the eight ball. Their teams aren't bad and insofar as class coaches go, the Dallas Cotton has all the best of it among the bowls, Jan. 1. The games brings together two of the leading figures in football—Bill Alexander of Georgia Tech and Dana X. Bible of
Texas.

Alexander and Bible have known each other for more than 30 years, have been closely associated for 15. Both have been president of the Coaches association and members of the rules committee for 15 years. Both have contributed a great deal to the game—in every line, on and off the field. In any complete history of football, the names of Bill Alexander and Dana X. Bible must head two of the brightest chapters.

Fs avor Sports During War
Faculty representatives: of Indiana’s collegiate athletic conference today favored continuance of intercollegiate sports for the duration “so far as possible.” Sanctioning the resolution of 20odd college coaches, the representatives passed five recommendations to alter sports to the wartime pace: 1. Suspension of the rule eliminating freshmen from competition. (A carry-over from a special ruling last year permitting schools to use freshmen.) 2. Sept. 1 is the earliest date for starting football practice, with three weeks before the first game can be played. 3. Conference members m a y schedule games with non-confer-ence schools, including service teams, if such games do not constitute more than half the entire schedule. 4, Dates for state meets should correspond with those of the past, and meets should be carried out if enough schools can travel to the site. 5. Metal team trophies should be abandoned in favor of the scrap metal drive, but plastic awards for individuals and teams should be continued. Howard W. Moody of Valparaiso moved up to the president's chair and George W. Horton of Wabash became vice president of the faculty organization.
