PAOCHI, Northwest China, Dec. 3—Mass demonstrations rivaling those accorded Wendell Willkie, have marked the whirlwind progress of the tour of the British parliamentarians who are visiting China as invited guests of the Chinese government. which has taken us from Chungking to this wartime boom town in the Chinese northwest. The Chinese and Japanese armies snipe at each other across the narrow width of the river and a Japanese battery paid the parliamentarian delegation the left-handed compliment . a 73-gun reception ~T0 more .an that accorded fllkie. But the Jap time table was nearly an hour off. It was the first shelling in that quiet sector since the Willkie visit. ‘ Willkie left a good impression in this part of China. In one of the underground reception rooms on the Yellow river front, we found the walls decorated with snapshots of the smiling Republican leader,
Promise More Help
Willkie brought promises of nore American help to China. The British mission is promising more ‘British help. Replying to the unasked question in the mind of every Chinese as to when the allies will open a new front in Asia, Lord Teviot, the leader of the British delegation, told a Chinese audience: “While we do not come to China as representatives of the British government, we are authorized to say this—the reconquest of Burma and the reopening of the: Burma road at the earliest possible moment are one of the most important objectives of our couniry.” Wherever the delegation went, Chinese officials tendered banquet after banquet, conjuring up such rarities as Scotch whisky, vichy
water and canned delicacies long;
considered extinct in northwest China.

Like most men who have served in the navy, Mr. Bobbitt is “sold” on .it, which fact, in Attorney Bobbitt’s language is “ipso facto “evidence” as to the value of the training and advantages of the navy. He said, “The navy has broddened my entire outlook and the travel I gained has taught me things that I could not have received through any other source.”
