SUPPORT NAB IN PETRILLO FIGHT

Broadcasters of Indiana, Michigan to Act as 2-

Day Parley Closes.

_ A resolution sustaining any action taken by the National Association of Broadcasters against James C. Petrillo, president of the American Federation of Music, was expected to be passed this afternoon by radio broadcasters of Indiana and Michigan. The broadcasters will close their two-day meeting at the Columbia club today. Referring to Petrillo’s order banning members of the A. F. M. from playing or contracting for recordings, transcriptions or any other form of mechanical reproduction of music after Aug. 1, John E. Fetzer of Kalamazoo, Mich. director of NAB, said here today that NAB considered the edict “untimely and unwarranted during the war period.”

Action Stalemated

~ At present, action against Petrillo {s stalemated pending a United States senate hearing in January. A complete investigation of the A. F. M. and its leader will be conducted by Senators Burton K. Wheeler - and D. Worth Clark. Neville Miller, president of NAB, and James Lawrence Fly, chairman of the federal communications commission, are expected to testify. + The NAB holds that small radio stations will be particularly hard hit by the Petrillo order due to their use of transcriptions and recordings. In opening the conference yesterday, Mr. Fetzer "discussed the “Responsibility of Broadcasters in War Time.” He pointed out that 35 per cent of radio’s facilities were being used by government agencies. Mr. Miller gave the accompanying facts and figures. Eugene Carr of the Office of Censorship cautioned the broadcasters
