haven’t had much since the several years ago. Are we wi

rations in order to give the Arabs some?

When you stop to think of the ruckus in the Midwest about gasoline rationing, you wonder if we have achieved that sort of international viewpoint. Yet this is an economic war as well as military and we must win on the economic fronts, too. War-torn French North Africa needs 1 many industrial | raw materials such | as petroleum and tinplate. Its mechanized farms Mr. Budrow 4 transportation system have been hit by the petroleum shortage and its lagging canning industry, which could help supply our forces there too, is badly in need of tinplate for packing. Arabs, whose religion prevents drinking alcoholic beverages, are fond of green tea. Also-on their critical list alsn are kerosene, coal, medical supplies and soap. After immedia‘e needs are taken care of, there ure many supplies still needed to ni: ke the region more self-sufficient in necessities it can no longer import, oi * o CORPORATIONS will earn five to six per cent l’ss this year than . they did last year, the commerce department expects. Profits in 1941 were relaiively high. Of course ther: is a wide range. NEW SOYBEAN MILL ESTABLISHED HERE

The Glidden Paint Co. of Cleveland, O., will soon establish one of the country’s largest soybean and feed mills in Indianapolis. The new Indianapolis industry will be known as the Glidden Feed Mills, Division of Glidden, and will occupy the building at Gent and 18th sts, formerly known as the American Hominy Mills.

Peter Turner, general manager of the new plant, has been here for a numoer of weeks supervising the remodeling of the plant and the installation of machinery. The company is spending over $150,000 in preparing the plant for the manufacture of feed. « Already a small pilot plant is in operation furnishing feeds for poultry, hogs and livestock. As soon as government priorities permit, additional modern machinery will be installed. en full production is reached, the mill will| process 20 cars of meal a day and 30 to 40 cars of feed. In addition to 42° different kinds of feed for poultry, hogs and livestock, the company will operate a large plant food plant. Soybean oils will be extracted for use in making vegetable shortenings and paints. The parent company, Glidden Paint Co. will consume a large proportion of the soybean oil in its other divisions located in 14 states and Canada, which are now engaged in the manufacture of paints, vegetable shortenings, oleomargine, salad dil, alpha protein, lecithin and other products using
