"Good Neighbor Voices a Doubt
LOS ANGELES, Nov. 27 (U.P). Max de la Fuente, former Peruvian consul at Los Angeles, said today that criticism directed at him during a custody wrangle following the divorce trial of the Mark T, McKees violated the good neighbor policy. McKee, a wealthy airlines executive, had charged de la Fuente with improper conduct with Mrs. McKee. When 2-year-old Terry McKee disappeared temporarily, after his custody had been awarded the father, McKee’s at- ' %orney, Joseph Scott, hinted de la Fuente was involved. “The evil implications and tendencies of these insults will be understood and shall not soon be forgotten by all Latin Americans,” de la Fuente said in a statement. “I am amazed that this court before which I voluntarily presented myself permitted such scurrilous filth to become a part of its record.” ————|————————————————————————— STUDY EMPLOYEE TRAINING The Indianapolis chapter, National Office Management association, will hear an address by Robert H. PEER FINED IN BRITISH COURT
Earl Guilty of Violating - Defense Rules.
LONDON, Nov. 27 (U. P.).— Mungo David Malcolm Murray, seventh Earl of Mansfield and an officer in the home guard, was fined £50 ($200) today at a Perthshire, Scotland, court on a charge of having violated national defense regulations.
It was charged that the earl had
attempted to communicate informa-
tion regarding equipment and disposition of British forces to a person who had written him a letter of inquiry. The sheriff told the court that there was no suggestion of malicious intent by the earl, but that he had admitted an indiscretion. After the charge had been read, the court went into secret session. The earl, who is 42, is also Lord Scone in the Scottish peerage, a title dating back to 1605 when the barony was given his ancester Sir David Murray, who was cup-bearer to King James VI of Scotland, who came to England to become James I. The earl has been active for years in agriculture and politics. He is hereditary keeper of Bruce's castle of Lochmaben, and a member of the royal company of archers which is the king’s bodyguard in Scotland.

Mother, of 77, Keeps Home Fires Burning
So Daughter Can Help Win War By Working
Nov. 23, 1942. “The Indianapolis Times: Here is an angle of civilian defense which never gets into the headlines. I think, as a tribute to old people, who feel that they are old and useless and only in the way as my mother often does at times, this might be used as a little build-up. ; “I am a defense worker and work from 7 p. m. to 6 a. m. This means the greater part of my day is spent in sleeping. I never could do it and keep up with the housework if it were not for my mother doing her bit by keeping the home fires burning—cooking, washing dishes and numerous other things. “She is 77 years old and sometimes it is a task for her to get about but she keeps at it and I think deserves a little glory along with the rest. She is Mrs. Sophie Wedge of 2221 Howard st. (Signed) A Times Reader, Mrs. Emory Allison
By ROSEMARY REDDING
Yes, Sophie Wedge is quite a “gal.” Yes, “gal,” for she certainly doesn’t act like a 77-year-old woman. The little note that came in the mail intrigued us and so we went out to meet her. She met us at the door, drying her hands on the tail of her apron and pushing back a few wisps of hair escaping about her face. : She was a bit nonplussed when we stated our business. (She didn’t know about the letter.) But she asked us in. Was Mrs. Allison in? “Yes, Leona, works nights you know, and she’s sleeping now,” she explained. Could we get a picture? What had she been doing? She had been doing the breakfast dishes and she went right on doing them while we took the picture. What came next on her schedule? Well, the daily porch sweeping generally came next. About that time, Mrs. Allison awakened. She works out at Real

Silk on the night shift and generally doesn’t get up until in the afternoon. During the last war, she worked as a long distance telephone operator and later for Kahn's, making uniforms. She had worked for a time out at Riley hospital. And then the war came along. ‘Mrs, Allison has two daughters. One is married to a young private stationed at Camp Walters. She kept reading about how badly women war workers were needed. She remembered her young son-in-law. She was unencumbered with the care of small children and the only thing that kept her at home was keeping house.
Mother Takes Over House
She talked it over with her husband, who incidentally is just recovering from a lengthy illness, and with her mother. Mrs. Wedge had been doing a lot of worrying recently about how “she wasn’t of much use.” She liked the idea of Leona helping win the war and it gave her an opportunity to help, too. So Leona went to work and her mother took over at home. And from the appearance of the house yesterday, Leona couldn’t have done a better job herself. “I couldn't do it if it weren’t for her,” said Mrs. Allison. “I’m pretty busy,” said the older woman, “but .I don’t know how my son-in-law likes my messing around. You know how men are about mother-in-laws.” A man’s voice from an adjoining room boomed out with: “Say, if every son-in-law got along with a mother-in-law like I get along with you there wouldn't be any such story going round.” That tickled her.
Stepson Served, Too
In the last war, one of Mrs. Wedge’s stepsons was “one of the first overseas and one of the last to come home.” He was one of eight stepchildren
Mrs. Wedge reared in addition to her own three daughters. “I guess raising 11 children is serving one’s country,” she said. Yes, we'd think so. But when that was done, Mrs. Wedge didn’t stop. She's still “soldiering” in her kind of way. “And I'm still good for a few more years,” eyes sparkling, Then, somehow, we got on the

BLOOD TRANSFUSION
METHOD IMPROVED
CHICAGO, Nov. 27 (U. P).—A new method of blood transfusion promises more effective treatment for men wounded on the fighting fronts, the Journal of the American
Medical association said today. The journal said the discovery that albumin in blood plasma (the liquid part) - could be injected in more concentrated form than whole plasma provided “a new method of great effectiveness for combating shock from injuries, hemorrhage and burns.” The method was said to be particularly important for treating wounded on the battlefield to reduce the mortality from shock. Doctors using the albumin serum would need it in quantities only one-fifth as large as those required if whole. plasma were used, the

reported effective use of it.

Yule Furloughs To Be Limited
WASHINGTON, Nov. 27 (U. P.). —Army passes and furloughs during the Christmas holidays will be limited because of the steadily growing strain on railway facilities, War Secretary Henry L. Stimson announced today. Furloughs will be granted between Dec. 12 and Jan. 12 to no more than 10 per cent of the enlisted strength of any camp or station at any one time, he said. Moreover, furloughs—which will be limited to 14 days—will be so arranged as not to permit travel to or from military reservations on Dec. 24 and 25.
Passes to enlisted men for Christmas and New Year's day also will be subject to the 10 per cent limitation, Mr. Stimson said movements of military personnel by rail have reached approximately 1,600,000 a month as compared with fewer than 1,000,000 in June.
EXTEND RULE ON RENTS AUBURN, Ind., Nov. 27 (U. P.).— Herman L. Brown, chairman of the DeKalb county rationing board, said today that landlords would have until Dec. 5 to voluntarily reduce rents to March 1, 1942, levels before federal regulations are inflicted.
