Limit Reduced
BOSTON, Nov. 24 (U. P.).—Three minor rule chiinges and a reduction of the Nationel Hockey league team player limit from 15 to 14 were the only new regulations to govern bigtime hockey ‘oday. President Prank Calder announced the changes after a meeting of the bourd of governors last night. The player reduction was a compromise 1nove reached after Manager Art Ross of the Boston
Bruins had sought to cut’ the A BASKETBALL
er limit to 13 because of the draft and war manpower infoads. Ross explaincd himself“as “satis-|W fled” after the meeting. “If the majority feels that way, we’ll go along with them,” he said. Under. the new rules each team still may have three forward lines, four defensemin and a goalie but no spare man nn the bench. It also was voted to allow any team to compete with as few players as desired. The ininimum previously was 12. Minor changes were—if a player * holds the puck less than three seconds and drops it at his feet there is no penalty but if he throws it away, the pen:lty is called; there shall be no whiiitle if a puck hits an official in penalty zones and inten-
tional offsides shall be faced off five| qq. East Steel Castings, 30; E. 0. Atns,

scorers last week. Tonight's game is the only contest being played in the league and will be the Caps last appearance here until Dec. 13. . The “boys in blue” will play an exhibition game in Toledo Saturday night against the Michigan - Ontario amateur league champions. They will practice in Detroit next week for their Dec. 3 game with Buffalo. The swing through the East calls for additional stops at Cleveland, Providence, New Haven and Washington.

The Harvards still can’t understand how they lost to Yale. They had a touchdown run called back; they saw two pass receivers drop touchdown heaves and, the bitterest brew of all, they saw a Yale runner, Timothy Hoopes, ‘elude at least four tacklers in scoring the winning marker. That made five victories in a row for the revitalized Elis and stamped Howie Odell, a newcomer, as one of the outstanding coaches of the year. : ® 2 ® THE MINOR LEAGUERS will dominate the Chicago baseball meetings next week. They have vital player and territory problems to cope with. It is the opinion of George Weiss, head of the Yankee farm system, that no

The player problem is more complex and no one seems to have a definite idea as to how it will be solved. The possibility exists, of course, that so many players will be called there will be no disposal problem at all. Best guess is that a plan. will be worked out by which a club owner, having players on his hands and no place to play them, will be given additional time in which to deal for them.

MAN POWER is only one of baseball’s problems. Transportation is another. An illustration is the predicament which faces the Pacific Coast league. Two of its members, Seattle and Portland, are far off the main line, They are to be dropped and the league
telescoped into a compact, six-
club affair. It is ‘expected Seattle and Portland will join the Western International, a class B outfit for the duration. Anything to keep going. By the way, Joe Cronin, manager of the Red Sox, should be popping up in London any hour now. He's already shipped. Red Cross work is his assignment.
