Dislikes Warcogs, Suggests Spars

WASHINGTON, Nov. 21 (U. P.) —House Democratic leader John W. McCormack of Massachusetts proposed today that members of the women’s auxiliary reserve of the coast guard be dubbed “spars” —even if the letters don’t stan for anything. . The coast guard, McCormack said, doesn’t like “wardogs”—an abbreviation derived from the

newly authorized corps, full name —and the army and navy “have "used up all the euphonious alphabet combinations.” “I think ‘spars’ has a nice nautical sound,” he said, adding that the fact the letters have no significance as an abbreviation “doesn’t make any difference.”

TERRY TO BE LAUNCHED BATH, Me, Nov. 21 (U. P.)—The U. S. Destroyer Terry, named in honor of the civil war hero Comm. Edward Terry, will be launched at

the Bath Iron Works Corp. yard Nov, 29, it was announced today.

The sponsor will be Mrs. Charles :

Nagel Jr. of St. Louis, grand-niece of Terry. ;
