St Some of the finest battleships and torpedo boats of the French navy and of foreign governments have been built at Toulon, and-it is the repair center for the French fleet as well as the home base for the Mediterranean fleet. y - Most of the workers of the city’s 150,000 population are employed at the naval base. Like other Mediterranean ports, it has an old city of congested areas, narrow streets and sprawling warehouses, surrounded by a more modern city.
