WASHINGTON, Nov. 13 (U. P.).—
Secretary of War Henry L. Stimson
said yesterday that henceforth “there will be no more short cuts to a commission unless a- man is highly skilled or has some rare technical training.” . _ From now on, he said, the great majority of officers will be the product of the army’s own officer candidates schools. A large number of the 225,000 applicants for commissions whose names are now on file with the war department, he added, will be disappointed.
Stimson said that he had tried from the outset to prevent draftdodging in connection with the granting of commissions and that
Army Commissions
Stimson Order
the army would be stricter than, ever in the future. Neither man) about to.be inducted nor those in Class 2 will be considered, he added,
The secretary said the officer cane didates schools had reached a high stage of development and. wers doing fine work. , .
He said: “If a man is over 35, his chances will be slimmer. Only a limited number will be accepted of those between the ages of 35 and 60. If under 35, his training and skill must be such that it is needed immediately or that he is not physically fit to withstand the training, Otherwise the only way a commis sion can be had will be through one of the schools.”
