By EDDIE ASH Times Sports Editor Meeting on the gridiron for the first time since 1909, Notre Dame and ‘Michigan come together at South Bend Saturday in the Game of the Week in the Midwest. . . . In
our book this contest between two fine teams rates a tossup as it is being picked “both ways” by
the football seers. ‘We predict a close match and with both sides scoring in a rousing thriller « « » and our choice is Notre Dame by a nod over Fritz Crisler’s great Wolverine aggregation. . . . Michigan beat IIlinois, 28-14; the Irish beat the Illini, 21-14. On the other hand the Iowa Seahawks -downed Michigan, 26-14; Notre Dame beat the Seahawks, 28-0. . . . Yeah, we admit football scores are misleading. . . . Fact is, on the average of every week the scores are misleading. . . . Ask any “expert. ” DePauw and Wabash collide in their traditional fracas and this time the setting is at Greencastle, lair of the
Tigers. . . . With the Monon Bell at stake the rivals are
sure to go all-out in the season’s finale for both. . . . Give us the Little Giants of Wabash to win. 8-8 8 2 =» az On the local front the stay-at-homes are offered a gem in the Blue bowl where Butler's Bulldogs entertain St. Joseph’s Pumas. . . . St. Joe is undefeated but tied
~~.
by St. Ambrose, a strong team in its class. /. . But we'll cast our lot with the improving Bulldogs in their last game of the season. Indiana has an easy one in Kansas State at Blooming- : ton and the size of the score is anybody’s guess. . . . But
Purdue runs into another toughie in Michigan State at :
East Lansing. . . « Michigan State is an in-and-out team, difficult to figure from week to week». . » But it looks
like another defeat for the crippled Boilermakers by a’ .close margin. ™
Other Hoosier games: Rose Poly over Principia, Ball State over Indiana State, Earlham over Hanover, Val paraiso over Concordia of River Forest, Ill, 8 2 # : 2 # 8 Other major games: Minnesota over Iowa, Ohio State over Illinois (at Cleveland), Wisconsin over Northwestern, Nebraska over Pittsburg, Great Lakes over Marquette, Detroit over Villanova, Missouri over Oklahoma and Kansas U., over Iowa State. This week’s eastern program is loaded with big games and several evenly matched elevens clash. . . . Gunning for an upset, we'll take Columbia over Navy in a stab in the dark. . . . Army looks too good for Virginia Poly.
. « « Also Boston college over Fordham, Penn over Penn
State, Yale over Princeton in a tossup, Harvard over Brown and Temple over Holy Cross. Also North Carolina Cadets over Manhattan, Williams over Amherst, Georgetown over North Carolina State, Syracuse over Colgate and Cornell over Dartmouth. . , . The last three could go the other way.
The big game in thé South pairs undefeated Georgia Tech and once-defeated Alabama. .'. . Try that one on your piano. . . . It promises to be a diziy affair but it’s time for that great Tech team to lose, maybe. . . . Our choice is Alabama in a strenuous skirmish. Others in the South: Duke over North Carolina,
~ Mississippi State over Duquesne, Louisiania State over
Auburn, Tennessee over Mississippi, West Virginia over Kentucky, South Carolina over Furman, William-Mary over Virginia, Georgia Cadets over Tulane, Wake Forest over George Washington; Miami (Fla.) over Florida and Jacksonville Cadets over Clemson. 8.8 =» 2 =z =» : The scramble still is on in the Southwest. . . . Texas is picked to edge Texas Christian and Tulsa to down Baylor. : . . Also Southern Methodist over Arkansas and Rice over Texas Aggies in a tossup. The Pacific coast teams have no respect for the form sheet and punch holes in it every week-end. ... We'll give a slight margin to Southern California over Oregon,
Stanford over Oregon State, Santa Clara over St. Mary's,
Washington State over Idaho and California over Montana. In the Rockies: Denver over Utah State, Colorado over Brigham Young and Utah over Wyoming.

Boston C. Will Get Bowl Bid
By JACK CUDDY United Press Staff Correspondent NEW YORK, Nov. 12.—It is too early to say that Boston college is the best college football team in the united states this war year, but we know that the Eagles are the best collegiate outfit in the East so far and the squad that is virtually certain to represent the North in the ‘Sugar Bowl game at New Orleans. . Boston college has defeated West Virginia, Clemson, North Carolina Pre-flight, Wake Forest, Georgetown and Temple. In those six games, Boston college was threat-

Jimmy Crowley’s North Carolina Pre-flighters. As sure as there are death and taxes, Boston college will lick Fordham—probably about 28-0. Leo Durocher Isn’t Seeking Navy Spot
ST. LOUIS, Mo., Nov. 12 (U. P.).— Manager Leo Durocher of the Brooklyn Dodgers today branded as “pure bunk” reports that he intended to seek a commission in the navy and said his future in baseball was up to Branch Rickey, his future as a citizen up to his draft board. 4 “They certainly have tried to put a navy uniform on me back East,” he said. “However, I'm going to wait instructions from Uncle Sam, and when he calls me he’ll tell me where he wants me to go to do my best job for him. And if I'm drafted, I'll start from scratch and not ask any favors.”
