BRIDGES SPEECH
Files Protest Against Labor Leader Appearing on Harvard Program.
BOSTON, Nov. 6 (U. P.).—Massachusetts American legionnaires have protested the action of Harvard university groups in inviting Harry Bridges, west coast labor leader facing possible deportation, to address them on Armistice day. At Harvard it was announced that Bridges had accepted the invitation to speak on “Labor and the War” under the joint auspices of the Harvard Teachers’ union and the Harvard Liberal union. “We of the American Legion view with the greatest regret an invitation to have an individual like

SILVER JUBILEE

MOSCOW, Nov. 6.—Tomorrow, the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics will fete its silver jubilee. The 10 days that shook the world in the autumn of 1917 have stretched into 25 years. And for the last 16 months, the
‘| defense forces and people of the
system that cynics universally proclaimed “wouldn’t work” ‘have fought off and confounded the
mightiest, most mechanized invading army of all history.
Just 25 Years Ago Twenty-five years ago, Russia was
great world powers and the bolshevist revolution was hailed, generally, abroad as the last step toward chaos. Today, in the death struggle to curb and crush Hitler and his Nazi creed, those who were last now stand first—an uniquely first. Since
June, 1941, the Russian army and the Soviet peoples have done what no other great world power ever has done in the same period—and what either the United States or Britain can only match in the future by the most heroic efforts and sacrifices. Stalingrad still stands. The Russian army is still unbroken and un-
and more devastating weapons and far greater armies, is still as deeply mired in Russia as Napoleon ever was. Once Undreamed of
Thus, the 25th anniversary of the Soviet Union has been transformed into something hitherto undreamed of—a symbol of the debt which the peoples in every democratic land now owe the Soviet soldiers and Russian people.

IT STARTED OUT in fun in the cuff department at the Cur-tiss-Wright plant—but it wound up in $1300 war bond sales. Ambrose Gutgsell told Dallas Carrico he'd buy a $100 bond if Mr, Carrico would. Mr. Carrico
agreed. When they told others what they were planning 18 employees agreed to buy additional bonds to the tune of $1300. All in addi-
