Conflict between Vichy and its North African protectorate, which has been developing during the last two months, today show no signs of abating. It started with an argument between the French residentgeneral in Tunis, Adm. Jean Esteva, an excellent man but a poor diplomat, and the new Bey of Tuni who succeeded his cousin on the:throne a year ago.

In his speech of congratulation Esteva alluded forcibly to French protectorate rights over Tunisia. According to Vichy information, the French government is and will remain adamant in its attitude toward the Tunisian claims and will completely support Esteva’s un[bending policy. It considers the Tunisian affair as merely a “mosquito bite,” another painful consequence of France’s defeat, Demands for the deposition of the Bey by a “coup d’etat” by the French military in Tunisia and his replacement by another candidate to the throne—these are numerous—are not unlikely if agitation increases, these reports say.

HONOLULU, Nov. .5.—In a clanking half-track truck, the bride and

groom sped away from the church after the ceremony, making the traditional “escape” from the wedding party and guests—but followed by an entire battalion of light tanks. That was the extraordinary finale of the recent marriage ceremony of Lieut. Donald M. Brattain and Frances IL. Vasconcellos, recently performed in the army chapel at Schofield barracks. It was a modern, wartime panzer wedding with an arch of tommy

replacing the customary slinky limousines. 4 Fellow officers of the bridegroom’s tank battalion wore service. khaki instead ‘of dress: whites. The. wedding music was played by the armored force band. 3 There was no wedding reception and no honeymoon. The following day the bride reported to work at the Hickam field supply depot, while her husband went back on duty with the tank corps. Lieut.
