CONTINUE SEARCH FOR RICKENBACKER

ASHINGTON, Oct. 29 (U. P.).— Secretary of War Stimson said today that the search for Capt. E. V.

(Eddie) Rickenbacker has not been

abandoned and that he was “clinging to the hope” that the filer will

be found. Capt. Rickenbacker was reported missing in the Pacific on Oct. 23, while flying on a special mission for the secretary. Secretary Stimson said during his regular weekly press conference today that “you all remember Capt. Rickenbacker’s appearance at this conference Oct. 15, when he was reporting on army air forces personnel and equipment in England.”

“The trip of which he was telling

was made in his capacity as my confidential adviser on aviation,” Secretary Stimson said. “When he was reported missing eight days later, he was on a similar mission in the Pacific. “There-has been no news of the army plane ‘which was carrying Capt. Rickenbacker. But the search for him and the seven army fliers who were with him has not been abandoned.”

officials fully realize this fact. Official instructions issued to all postoffices stress this and call upon civilians to comply “With instructions.

' 6. Pounds Preferred

The top weight limit for packages don

mailed to men overseas cah be.as great as 11 pounds, but the army and navy ask that the top weight be six pounds. In size, the package must not exceed 18 inches in length or 42 inches in length and girth combined. In other words keep them to the’ size of a “shoe box’ but don’t use one. “It’s too flimsy,” says Adolph Seidensticker, postmaster. And there are lots of other don’ts that must be followed if you want your package fo reach its destination safely.

Follow Three Rules

DON'T send foodstuffs or clothing. The men in the service have plenty of each. - DON'T send more than one package a week to the same addressee by any person or on behalf thereof. DON’T send intoxicants, inflammable materials, poisons or: other compositions which may kill or injure another or damage the mails. DON’T use a gummed label on the package for addressing purposes. Write directly on the package. Salt water air affects the adhesive and the label is. likely to come off. DON'T hog-tie your.package. It will probably have to be opened by censors. BUT DO fasten it securely.

Follow these instructions so from :

thousands of miles away you can say; “Merry Christmas,” to someone
