AWAIT REPORTS ON NEW BOMBER RAIDS

LONDON, Oct. 22 (U.P.).—Detailed crew reports were expected to reveal today that American flying fortresses inflicted heavy damage on the big German U-boat base at Lorient, France, and the Maupertus airdrome near Cherbourgh in simultaneous daylight raids made with fighter protection yesterday. It was believed that the big fourengined bombers, were lost, again took a heavy toll of German fighters as they did in their attack on Lille Oct. 9 when 48 planes were shot down and more than 50 damaged. The loss of three flying fortresses at Lorient was the highest suffered by the super-bombers in a single raid and brought the total lost over Europe to seven.
