yesterday to: lure the ladies io buying war bonds. With a consignment of 70 wei of hose and 300 customers demanding the privilege of buying them, proprietor George Prieps of the Prieps Mercantile Co. saw a chance to strike a blow for Uncle Sam’s war chest. He decreed that stockings could be purchased only by those who also bought a $25 war bond. There were no stockings lett when the rush was ‘over. 8 8 8 WASHINGTON, Oct, 21-(U. P.) «~The war production board recently asked for old silk and nylon hosiery for use in the manufacture of gun powder bags.
Today apparently alarmed at the|
eager response of women to its appeal, it sounded this restraining Miss | note: “Hosiery that can be repaired or mended for further use is not being asked for by the government.” “On the’contrary, the WPB urges
all women to conserve their hosiery | in every way so that it will last as}:
long as possible. Only after hosiery is discarded as being completely unusable should it be placed aside for salvage /purposes.”
