What town. in Yndisna can claim the glory of having Donald E. Runyon its native son? Mr. Runyon, 29, whose home town wasn’t mentioned in the dispatches from Solomon islands, shot down eight Jap planes during a scant three weeks of operation in the combat area. Working with his carrier based squadron, he promptly polished off two zeros, five dive bombers and a twin-engine torpedo bomber, thus joining the select group of Pacific pilot aces. He used a minimum of ammunition and his mates attribute his success to “smooth piloting and accurate marksmanship.”

Air raid warnings generally go i ee
And, unfortunately, so did the 9 o'clock New York Central freight According to schedule, the freight and the air raid control center would have whistled a duet as the St. Joseph ty civilian defense sponsored ‘its ‘total “blackout last night. But Col. Robert S. ‘Harsh of the army suggested that the signal be delayed a half hour or so for an element of “surprise.” Even the air raid ‘wardens weren't notified. So when the 9 o'clock freight went just plain “wh00000000,” the factory superintendents thought it was the control center whistle and they set off their own warnings. The residents put out their lights with the 9 o'clock warning and turned them on again when Col. Harsh's surprise warning went off at 9:35. The air raid wardens had to hustle around and get all the lights turned off again. Police’ reported only one casualty.

P).— Pope Pius has conferred on the apostolic delegate here certain powers of the ‘rota, the supreme court of the Catholic church, regarding pending matrimonial cases. ‘Only cases which have already been instituted will be handled by the delegate, the Most Reverend Amleto Giovanni Cicognani. The rota, located at the Vatican, handles cases involving marital annulments, ordinations, and professions of faith. The /delegation of authority was made, it was said, because of the difficulties of communication with Rome as a result of the war. Similar delegations of authority are being made, it was reported, to
