Peggy Van Fleet plays Eileen. “We played in 44 assorted barns, picture palaces, high school auditoriums and grand opTy houses,” Miss Afton related. “There were times when we huddled in stations for hours. There were stages where we could get only half of the Sherwood sisters’ apartment on the stage. “We were sidetracked several times to allow infinitely more important army trains to go through. Out of Boise City, our special was requisitioned by Uncle Sam, so: we were taken on by a jerkwater engine and a string of cars they probably dug up out of the Smithsonian Institution to accommodate theatrical traffic. “The cars burned kerosene lamps. It was 20 below zero, or it felt like it, and there was no heat. There was no diner. We wrapped ourselves in blankets and ate candy. “But we loved it.”

After finishing up his first day at an air base as a civilian instructor in the army air corps, George Brent asked his students if there were any questions. It will be patterned after “Tales of Manhattan” starring a bomber instead of a dress suit, , , . You remember when Bud Abbott built himself a swimming pool? Lou Costello had to have one-just like it. Then Abbott bought a night club. So Costello is Hollywood's newest night spot owner. HOLLYWOOD, Oct. 5 (U. P)— What Preston Foster had on his ‘hands today was a mountain lion, not stuffed, either. The scene was stage 14 at 20th Century-Fox and the lion was supposed to come down the plaster mountainside after Foster's horse. The horse was to whinny—if that is what a horse does when it is scared —and that was to waken Foster. Then he was to shoot the lion. Simple, hey? J. H. Kerr, the animal man, had
his lion on the end or a rope. He also had a whip, but it wasn’t much use because the lion bit into it and wouldn't let go. Anyhow, there were Kerr and lion on the mountain.

compressed air, vaporized oil, and
the frigid fumes of dry ice. So everything was set. The lion growled, the camera whirred, and that horse. just slept.
scared. The boys rattled a bucket of oats in the vain hope that maybe a hungry horse might look like a frightened one. He wasn't hungry.
Lion Has Other Ideas
So the lion growled again and quickly Foster shot his gun, loaded with blanks, and that made the horse jump. Schuster said he guessed maybe the horse" looked scared. Anyhow, it was getting foggier by the minute.

Ex-Jewish Cop Tells o His Exploit. By FREDERICK -C. OTHMAN United ‘Press Hollywood Correspondent HOLLYWOOD Oct. 5.—Remeniber a couple of years ago when all the papers carried the story ‘about Mayor Fiorello La Guardia appointing a Jewish cop to guard. the German consulate in New York?
