Harry Champ Presides
Mrs. “Eldo ‘I. Wagner and Dr. Harry 'G. Mayer, other -Citizens School. committee candidates, also spoke. Harry R. Champ, executive secretary of the ‘committee, presided. “Managing the. schools and 1Diaries of the city of Indianapolis is big business,” Mr. Champ said, “and the school hoard spends seven or eight million dollars a year.” : He stated that school commissioniers without high moral stand-
ards could profit personally by
“selling out” the school system. In reviewing the records of past boards whose election was sponsored by the citizens group, he cited the present 89-cent school tax rate, and compared it to the $1.35 rate requested by one of ‘the school boards before the formation of the eitizens school committee: “More than 200 Indianapolis citizens werd® considered as qualified for the citizens slate, and the committee did a..thorough job of investigating before final selections were made,” Mr.- Champ said. Other candidates indorsed by the committee are Edgar A. Perkins and Howard S. Young.
