era] innocent spectators including Corbin Patrick, the critic of the Star, and finally falls-into a dance act with complete abandon. It is not a bad stunt at all. It is one way for an actor to turn the tables and climb over a critic with impunity. * The sensational act of the show

is’ the performance of the Five:

Maxellos, three boys and two girls who are all remarkable gymnasts. They have a stunt which they claim is almost- impossible. Catherine Hafris is a toe dancer with cleats on her toes. She taps out rhythms to the music provided by Ed Resner’s band. Shavo Sherman is the impersonator on the bill, one of the best Keith's has had yet. He gives you his impressions of Ted Lewis, Al Jolson, Jimmy Durante and Groucho Marx. Les Ghezzis are a pair of tumblers whose feats. are above average "and Billy Farrell, who doubles as m. c., dances and doubletalks with his partner, Lucy Boots. The bill is well arranged and includes a good array of talent.

Theater Notes

ENGLISH'S WILL FOLLOW through this month with two comedies and a melodrama: “My Sister Eileen” the week of Oct. 12; “The Student Prince” Oct. 22, 23 and 24 and “Angel Street” Oct. 29, 30 and 31. “Angel Street” is .the mystery drama by the British author, Patrick Hamilton, who deals in psychological drama. Meanwhile, the theater guild announces that following its success with the Lunts this week, it is offering season tickéts for the eight guild shows to come. The only difficulty with the announcement is its brevity. Only one of the eight shows, “Papa Is All,” a Pennsylvania Dutch comedy, has-been booked. It will play Nov. 2, 3 and 4. The others have yet to be announced, However, it is possible that the new fantasy by Ketti Frings, “Mr. Sycamore,” may come here. The guild plans to unveil the play shortly in the East. It will star Lillian Gish and Stuart Erwin.

8 ” 2 'Flying Tigers" REPUBLIC STUDIOS, which has a most aggressive publicity department, sends out two-fdot “postal cards” to apprise you of their super-terrific picture, “The Flying Tigers.” The film, which was previewed here last week by film exchanges and hewspapermen, is really a rip-snorter. John Wayne and John Carroll are the stars of the epic, which deals with the pre-Pearl Harbor history of the American volunteer group, the famous Flying Tigers. The picture hardly goes a minute without a burst of machine gun, a Jap pilot clutching his face, or a plane diving down ‘in flames. The climax comes when Mr. Carroll makes a suicide dive on a Jap supply train in a transport plane loaded with nitroglycerine. Two of the Tigers, both Hoosiers, are back home in Indiana. They are Dick Terry of Greencastle and Wayne Ricks of Frankfort who brought back his. wife, whom he met in India. Both Mr. Terry and Mr. Ricks were ground crew technicians, but they weren't exempt from danger. Mr. Terry had both legs broken when the Japs bombed a field in Yunnan province. The ex-Tigers are going into defense industry now. : Mr. Terry said he has been employed by the naval ordnance plant here, while Mr. Ricks has drawn an assignment as field representative for Curtiss-Wright.
