TONIGHT 7:15=-AH-Star Game, WIBC. 8:00—Basin Street, WISH. 8:30-~Mr. District Attorney, WIRE,
By FRANK WIDNER THIS NEW series of “Spotlight Bands” programs which will be launched over WISH and the Blue network Monday night opens a Possibility for service. men in camps and armories around
Indianapolis to get some real
entertainment. Service men
haven't had an opportunity to be entertained by some of the big- Ls ger “name” bands Miss Forrest in the music business, with the exception of the orchestras that played at the Circle. , But with the winter season ahead and arrangements under way to bring orchestras here for one-night stands as has been the practice in the past, it would be a good oppor* tunity to have a band play at Ft. Harrison, Stout field, the Naval armory or any other of the places where service men are quartered here. ' : It is the intention of the program to bring the show to men who are in isolated places and who have ‘been months without entertainment of any kind. Of course, this couldn't be said of the service men here, but there is another opportunity for the men to get entertainment here by the “name” bands. That is the announcement by the
or naval base that sends in the greatest number of votes in the poll to. vote for the best band of the
week will be rewarded a “Spotlight” |
program to be broadcast from that point within a month. . And the
votes will be considered in propor-|
tion to the camp personnel. Yesterday the Blue network an-
nounced the following lineup for}
the initial week of the program, beginning Monday on WISH. That night Harry James, featuring Helen Forrest and Johnny McAfee, will lead off the series. The remainder of the week will be: Tuesday, Fred die Martin; Wednesday, Horace Heidt; Thursday, Kay Kyser; Friday, Alvino Rey, and -Saturday, Tommy Dorsey. is 8. 8 8 THE AMAZING story of a $40-a« week clerk who found an envelope of bills in the rear seat of a bus that contained money of such large denominations that he had to count the zeros on his fingers will be the subject of the “Manhattan gieidnight” drama tonight on W at 7:30 o'clock. The clerk suddenly wakes up to the fact that his boss’ secretary is beautiful. He then demands an .interview with the boss (a thing thas had never before been done by the office staff) and. tells him the 17 years he has been there were the dreariest of his life. He then pro« ceeds home and straightens out a few worries around the household.
® i" ” THE “WHODUNITS” tonight have “Mr. District Attorney” coming: to grips with a counterfeiter of gasoline ration stamps on WIRE at 8:30 o'clock and “Mr. and Mrs. Thin Man” running into sabotage and murder on the same station at 7
Blue network that fe army camp
o'clock.
