Everybody ¢ Collected | But MacDonald
THE ARMY EMERGENCY RELIEI WOUND was 30000 Hichés today through the singing of Miss Jeanette MacDonald and the listening of 5800 Indianapolis citizens, It was value for value. There is no |-
doubt that the screen’s

tomers $6000 worth of singing, and more. : So the net proceeds from Miss MacDonald's Soneert ad oad 2 INDIANA PLANTS
tabernacle yesterday were that the army fund got its urgently:
‘needed ‘dollars, the customers got | a first rate concert.and La MacDonald got a bouquet of flowers
and half a pitcher of ice water which she drank thirstily. That's all she got. That's all she wanted. Let it be a point of pride for the duration at least that Indianapolis responded more generously when the collection plate was passed around than Oklahoma' City or Chicago. These were the two previous stops on the star's tour for army relief which has 18 more cities on its itinerary. At the close of the program, the ‘orange haired beauty auctioned off encores. A group of volunteers in the audience passed the plate for encores. The group included several soldiers and one sailor who : didn’t mind helping out the army at all. : The encores brought $1100. In. Chicago, the audience paid $806 for encores while the good people of Oklahoma City gave $632. Of course, the gate was higher in those. towns where larger auditoriums were used. But for downright pocket-dig-ging, Indianapolis holds the record so far, 8 8 8

So it was warm. The star, herself, perspired and had to remove a white jacket. Men in the audience took off their coats. Then it became 'a shirtsleeve rally, Hoosier style. Miss MacDonald got the angle immediately. While her accompanist, Giuseppe Bambschek, was warms ing up on the waltz song from Gounod’s “Romeo and Juliet” she had to sneeze. - So she sneezed. Twice. Many an artist would have been undone. But she grinned, made a
