Clubs Curtail Social Events

A number of clubs have arranged their social calendars for the coming year and will open the fall and winter season with formal programs next month. Activities will be curtailed somewhat because of the war. * The Columbia club will celebrate its formal opening with a dinner dance Oct. 3 and the Indianapolis

Athletic club will open its formal season at a supper dance Oct. 10. Three plays instead of the usual four will be presented by the Players club, according to J. Perry Meek, president. They will be given at the Woodstock club.and will be followed by dances. Dates set are Nov. 28, Jan. 30 and April 3, |

Limits Performances

. Productions of the Dramatic club this year will be limited to one performance during the Christmas season, according to an announcement by William E. Munk, president. Only one play was given: by the club during the first year of the first world war. That play was was “Eliza Comes to Stay.” On Oct. 24 the Lambs: club will open its season at the Columbia club. The organization is cutting down on expenses and has ' arranged ' only three performances in lieu of the usual five. . St. Francis Hospital guild has scheduled its annual charity dance for Nov. 21 at the Columbia club. Mrs. John L. Gedig is chairman of arrangements for the event. : The Columbia club also will be the scene of the Paddock Saddle club’s annual dance on Nov. 28, while the Southern club will have its annual holiday dinner dance at the Indian-

apolis Athletic club on Dec. 19.
