“FROM ‘THE UNRUFFLED appearance of partner Anton Scibilia Of Keith's, one would hardly suspect that tunning a vaudeville house has | [3a little moments of desperation. When the customers filed in for the first show yesterday they didn't suspect that a major catastrophe had been averted. Judy Starr, the show's headliner, almost didn't show up. Early in the morning, there sat of a pencil and contemplating the quirks of show business phil‘osophically. Miss Starr was: some- | where in an airplane over Indiana, but Mr. Scibilia and partner, Sam Roberts, didn't know that. All they knew was that the rest of the show was on deck, but 0 Judy.
: 8 nn ® Over City Twice - IT SEEMED that Miss Starr had been in airplanes most of the hight. Twice she had been in dianapolis—2500 feet up. The plane couldn't land. Fog. * Wednesday night; after she finished a show at Joliet, Ill, she went to Chicago to catch a train at midnight, but she missed’ it. So she drove to the airport and . at 4 a.m. boarded the transport for Indianapolis. ‘ The plane droned across Indi@na in the night, over fog‘drowned Indianapolis, sitting down finally in the fair city of Cin‘cinnati, Judy had three minutes to catch the ‘westbound plane back and she ‘made it on: a fast . sprint.’ : It was daylight then and Judy could almost see ‘Indianapolis, a dark patch in the fog, as the plane winged over it and flew on . . . back to Chicago.

Eureka! She landed. The first show began at 1:45 p. m. and Judy: raced in at 1:40. Manager Scibilia stopped ' chewing the pencil. She sang “The Three Little Fishes” as she used to with: the Rudy Vallee show. Ed Resner and the boys in the pit orchestra picked her up beautifully. And she was swell. But tired. “Maybe I should have driven down. here,” she said. “Does it take long?” She was told it's only five. hours by auto. “Oh!” said Judy collapsing on

Evans. & Mayer (& Jeanie)
EVANS AND MAYER, known to their friends as Mr. and Mrs. Ray Mayer, have an act where Ray plays the piano and Evans sings. She sings an original spire itual, “Thank the Man Upstairs,” by Mr. Mayer and it’s a good song. In fact, the applatise was so good that 8-year-old Jeanie, who had been watching mother and daddy from the wings, couldn't resist running out and taking a
bow, too, so theyll make that 2
part of the show. Christy & Cook are a couple of comic acrobats, with Christy.
folding himself up like a jack-
knife. You'll have to see it to" believe it. Lester O'Man’s puppets dance in an original manner.
The three McNallie sisters
would be just another girls’ trio if they didn’t dance, too, and the Pan-American dancers, three boys and three girls, jitterbug in a 0 most un-South American way. mean
