is published here. i Title of the piece is “Lincoln an Jefferson—The Political Twins.” It begins by “all fair-minded persons to look at the contents in- * stead of the labels in judging a political party. Lauds Jefferson Teachings “If we will not only read the labels, but examine the contents, we will find that the Republican as well as the Democratic party is historically rooted in the teachings of Jefferson,” the former Indiana congressman maintains. “It is only this label worship and the expediencies of politics which have obscured.the truth. “Abraham Lincoln was a political first cousin to Thomas Jefferson. He believed in freedom more than in authority. I have never run across any tribute paid by Abraham Lincoln to Alexander Hamilton, the apostle of centralization. On the other, hand, Lincoln repeatedly acknowledged his indebtedness to Jefferson.” - Tributes paid by President Lincoln to Jefferson are quoted to prove his point. Also quoted is a letter from Claude G. Bowers, Indianaborn author and historian, now

linking of Lincoln with Jefferson. Cites G. O. P. Praises Mr. Pettingill concludes: “But Lincoln is not the only Re-

son. Other men high in the coun<cils of that party have done the same—Calvin Coolidge, Charles Evans Hughes and many others. “But, regardless of the passing incidents which have in years gone by formed points of disagreement, * those today who still believe in free “enterprise as against collectivism, in liberty as against bureaucacy and in the historic separation of powers - between the nation and the states,

9700 REWARDED AT LINK-BELT

Allison Workers Who Have Relatives. in Services

Also Honored.

Link-Belt’s 2700 active members of the United Steel Workers of America, local 1150, are plenty proud. Here's why: They were among the first to sponsor the war production drive in the city and are known as “productioneers.” ~The company has awarded them pins for their work. They have pledged 10 per cent of their earnings to war bonds. And a large majority have signed certificates to be blood donors. New pledges are being signed every day. The union representatives say this has been possible through a “fine co-operation” between the workers and the company.

Allison Workers Get Pins

The AllisoNews is honoring Allison workers who are members of families with members in the armed services. Each becomes a member of the Allison Star Legion and will be awarded the “Legion Pin.” On the pin will be a star for each member in the service. Public health authorities have suggested that war industry workers spend some time in recreation. So an AllisoNews photographer accompanied the family of Edward A. Ruston, an employee, on a trip to the circus recently. The photographs will appear in a future issue of the publication. Other activities in the recreation program include the Allison golf tourney at Speedway Sept. 20, the tennis tourney Sept. 6 and the start of the bowling season with some 400 teams entered in various leagues.
