“Adventures of the Thin- Man” on WIRE at 7 o’clock, ‘It’s all about an attempt to kill an important war materials manufacturer, . . . No one can break into a draft board office, steal questionnaires and get away with it. They don’t either,
{as Mr. District Attorney will show
you tonight in “The Case of the Phoney Payoff’ on the same station at 8:30 o'clock. . . . A second performance of Charles Gounod’s “Faust” is scheduled for “Great Moments in Music” at 9 o'clock tonight on WFBM.
TODAY'S STAR: Harry Lillis Crosby, who acquired the nickname
“Bing” while at school in Spokane,| 5g
Wash.,, because he could shout “bing! bing!” louder than any of the other boys in a game of “cowboy and Indians.” Claims he won't be a success until he is “able to do what I want when I want to do it.” « « + Bing rode to fame by singing ballads with a peculiar catch in his voice and is probably better known today than any other vocalist. « o « He loves to fish but a greater love possibly is the one he holds for horses even though he takes a good natured ribbing from all his: friends about them. , ... He is happily married to Wilma Wyatt Crosby, a former \ actress known as Bing . Crosby Dixie Lee and the couple have four children—all boys. . . . Bing is the star of the Thursday night “Music Hall” broadcast (WIRE, 8 p. m.) and currently is on vacation. . . . He’s famed for the multi-colored shirts he wears during the broadcasts. . . . While studying law at Gonzaga university, Bing formed an
"| orchestra there with another student, Al Rinker. They played sev-
eral vaudeville engagements and then quit college for cafe work. . . . Back in vaudeville again, they were heard by Paul Whiteman who signed them for his band. .. . Harry Barris joined the duo and they became known as the Rhythm Boys. . . « Bing became a solo singer for CBS in 1933 and then went into the movies. . . . Was top moneymaking® star from 1934-40. . . . At the top in his profession, Bing formed some rare singing duos on his program - with such stars as
- j{Connee Boswell and Mary Martin.
ea a 0 Current gossip is that Hollywood is ‘attempting to team him with Dinah Shore fof his next movie. “or i
