WASHINGTON, Aug. 20 (U. P.). — Abolition of selective service
ly fit only for limited military duty —will affect an estimated 800,000 men and provide a new reservoir of manpower for the armed services. All 1-B registrants will be placed in either 1-A, and made subject to

Begin Reclassifying Sept. 1 Reclassification of 1-Bs will begin Sept. 1, with one-fourth of such registrants in each draft board placed in a new category each month ‘and action completed on the entire list by Jan. 1, 1943. Selective service headquarters said each registrant “will be examined by the local board examining phy-
any obviously disqualifying defects which would prevent him from rendering any military servie~—if he has none he will be sent to the army ‘induction station on the aLpropriate call.” The action followed a recent war
with minor physical defects to take office jobs and other military duties which would release physically fit men for fighting service.
Married Still Face Call
It was pointed out that this move does not alter the fact that married men with or without dependents will be drafted as the need arises. Some married; men, previously classified as 3-A, already have been placed in 1-A and inducted. Draft headquarters instructed lo-

COUNTY MAY CREATE FOUR FIRE STATIONS
County commissioners are discussing plans to establish fire fighting stations in areas outside the city limits. William T. Ayres, president of the commissioners, said he will ask the council for a $40,000 appropriation for the project. The stations would be manned by volunteers under the direction of the newly organized air raid wardens and fire wardens.
