You solve six puzzles each week in this contest, in accordance with the rules. The six puzzles offered for solution each week are called a “Series.” The 1st week’s Series is printed on this page, at the right. An official Entry Form on which to send in your soldtions to these six puzzles is printed in the lower right corner of the page. This Entry Form should be ‘mailed before Midnight, Thursday, August 20th. THE ALL-AMERICAN Contest is bit announced today in the world’s largest newspaper Sunday Magazine Section, The American Weekly, In addition it is hing announced in other leading American newspapers. ; The contest is open to you and ‘every member of your family. You can ‘enter. by using the Entry Form on this page. The moment your entry is received, your own private file will be established and the various puzzles of the contest, as issued, WILL BE MAILED TO YOU.
fo Sure You Understand How to Solve the Puzzler
We provide on this page a SAMPLE PUZZLE with a brief explanation of how to solve the puzzle of the contest. Be sure to read this explanation carefully before you try to solve the puzzles at the right. There is only one correct solution for each puzzle. Neatness does not count in this contest. Furthermore, if it is obvious that you haye arrived at the correct solution of the puzzle, then no trivial or irrelevant mistake in spelling will count against you. Every reasonable consideration will be given the contestant consistent with fairness to all other contestants.
Send In Your Solutions Weekly In Series of Six
Note carefully that in this contest you solve a Series of puzzles EACH WEEK, and that you send in your solutions WEEKLY. The first week’s Series of puzzles is printed on this page. Solve these puzzles and send in the ENTRY FORM before Thursday Midnight. August 20th. EACH WEEK, as the contest proceeds you solve an additonal Series of. puzzles and send in your answers WEEKLY, All of your solutions, as received, will be placed in your own individual private file.
Enclose 15¢ in Coin With Each Weekly Series of Answers
When sending in each series of answers, the rules require that you enclose 15 cents in coin. When winners are announced and prizes awarded, each contestant who has submitted the solutions - for a complete group .of puzzles will receive a volume of “This Is Your America,” compiled and edited by Gurdon Simmons and R. L. Meyer, & collection of the outstanding newspaper feature articles published in: American newspapers during the past five years. This volume is yours, in accordance with Rule No. 7, regardless of any cash prize you win and irrespective of any prize won.

Note: the San pie pudle above. It was purposely made: easy to show you how to solve the puzzles. Notice that there afe Several objects illustrated and also that there are several plus and mins signs/ which means that you add or subtract. Let’s solve the puzzle together. The first object is a WATCH. . Therefore, write down the letters W-A-T-C-H. Next you are told to add the letter O, and by so doing you have W-A-T-C-H-O. Then you see a minus sign followed by a COT, which-means that you deduct the letters C-O-T. That leaves you W-A-H, from which you are then to deduct H, leaving you W-A, Next you are told to add S and HINGE, giving you W-A-S-H-I-N<G-E. : To that add TOP and the letter N, and you have. W-A-S-H-I-N-G-E-T-O-P-N. Take away EP as directed, and you have thé name of the Father of our Country, WASHINGTON.
