16 weeks of vaudeville ovér at the rejuvepated Keith's, I can report that the pace hasn’t shown any signs of slackening. Some folks thought it would, but they underestimated its stamina. Whatever these stage shows lack in big names and hoopla, they make up in enthusiasm, pep and consistently good folk entertainment. ; Once more the trio of showmen who operate the venture, Sam Rob-
erts, Nick Boila and Anton Scibilia, assure me that they plan to continue their policy of a fresh e show and a new movie 52 weeks a year. On this basis, it is. fair to assume that old-time vaudeville has returned to roost here for a good, long while. 3 This week’s show features a smooth, old-timer, Sammy White, of the stage and the films, who has the polish of a seasoned entertainer. His pantomime-dance of a Russian ballerina taking her. bath is a masterpiece in that line of endeavor. It is entertainers like Mr. White that Keith’s is bringing back alive to us. What if a few hams get sandwiched in between? Vaude-
know that today’s ham is sometimes tomorrow’s toast, and hey

Wrecked By Dogs
THE THREE ORANTOS provide the spectacle of the current stage show. They climb over cne another and two of them balance on a pole which is supported on the shoulder of the burliest Oranto. Little Fred's “Football; Dogs” are a half-dozen or so big, bull terriers who chase balloons around the stage. Frustrated when the balloons break, they tear up the stage and do a thorough job of it. Down comes the backdrop revealing bare walls and a few articles of stage furniture d the general picture is similar. to any wygckage any six large dogs copld cause on any stage. The Twin. Tones are a couple of gentlemen who play a guitar and ‘a bull fiddle respectively. Their foolishness is sometimes comical. Jimmy Rae does some sensational acrobatic dancing and the Watson Sisters have a “heavy” act which is pretty fair fun most of the way.
~ ON THE SCREEN | is “Drums of the Congo,” a sure-fire adventure picture with secret agents menacing one another amid some spectacular shots of African jungle life.
Pittsburgh, a 42 ‘Grapes of Wrath!
PITTSBUHGH, Aug. 7 (U. P.)— “The Grapes of Wrath” sounded like a children’s bedtime story when compared with the genuine wrath of a group of Pittsburghers after they admitted shamefacedly yesterday that they had been “taken in” by a fake John Steinbeck. The bogus Steinbeck, who didn’t even look like the famous author, bowled over 50 members of the cast of a play being given at the studio of the theater here. He borrowed money, signed Jane Ellen Ball, director of the theater, to manage his “experimental theater” at a fabulous salary, signed autograph books, and -ran the gang ragged hunting “kosher pickles” for him. But the climax came when he failed to show up at a mid-night dinner party he was to have held for them at the Ft. Pitt hotel. The group waited and waited, but even the die-hards, after several hours, finally gave up and chalked the whole business up to experience.

You'll Find Out Why In ‘Petticoat Fever.' Although some of the props for
the Brown County Players’ production. of “Petticoat Fever” tonight and tomorrow night at Nashville may be home-made, the backdrop is worth anywhere from $1000 up, - It’s a scene showing a large window looking" out on snowy mountains and an ice-locked harbor. It was painted by Mattie Osborne and Curry Bohm, Brown county artists. When these Brown county artists paint anything, it immediately be-: comes valuable. - “Petticoat Fever,” second in the series of the players’ _ productions

It seems that Dascom hasn’t seen a woman in two years and is pretty dismal about it. Then an airplane bearing a couple of lovely ladies is forced down near Dascom’s lonely hut. The play is under the direction of Frederick G. Winter, speech and drama professor at Butler university and the Jordan Conservatory. Members of the cast are Brown county natives. ; George Tygelf of Nashville plays the heavy” hero, dismal Dascom Dinsmore. By ARTHUR WHITNEY United Press Staff Correspondent HOLLYWOOD, Aug. 7.— Walt Disney, reverting from the fantastic to the mere imaginative, put his artists to work today’ making the cargo and bombing planes of the future, envisioned ‘ by Maj.
