THE WAR has cut deep into the lives of several NBC actresses who . have become members of of the

growing American army of “war wives.” But the young women, when not engaged in their radio work, are doing their bit behind the lines by engaging in civilian group activity of various kinds. Among the actresses whose husbands are now in service are Sarajane Wells, whose husband, Dolph Nelson, is an apprentice seaman in the coast guard; Lois Zarley, whose, husband, Stuart Robson, is in the mechanized cavalry. division, and the followinz - wives and their husbands: Eloise Kummer (Dr. Wayne Lameron), Mary Marren (Staff Sergt. Carlyle Rees), Ruth Bailey (Eugene Sigart), Ruth Perrott (George St. John Perrott) and Muriel Bremner (James Bremner Jr.). The young women are heard daily on the various serial programs. ”n » =

The popular star will appear Aug. 3 and 10, with the latter broadcast putting her as the “Cavalcade’s” guest star honored with the most encores. According to Andre Kostelanetz, a popular song may be “played to death” on the air within three months after it has been introduced but if it has the qualities to make great music it will turn up again. For instance, he cites “Stardust” and “Night and Day” as two of the.

time. . . . George Sebastian, who conducts “Great Moments in Music,” still uses a baton with which he conducted concerts while head of music for the Soviet Union. Dan Seymour, announcer for the Dorothy Kilgallen show, is off for a two weeks’ vacation. , . . Because the draft is taking so many of the men in radio, women are moving into their important jobs, filling vacancies from script writing to directing and at the same time acting on many of the major network programs. The four Lee sisters, now heard with Vaughn Monroe and his orchestra, have had their names changed four times. First it was the LeAhn sisters when they started out. It was later changed to the Leon sisters and when they hooked up with Vaughn Monroe they were known as the Four M’s. They then adopted their present name.
