Sylvia Griffith Joins Parents at Their Summer Home in the East
HERE AND THERE: Miss Sylvia Griffith left late this week for the East, where she will join her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Theodore B. Griffith, at their summer home in Little Boars Head, N. H. She and her mother will be there until the first or second week in Septembel, although Mr. Griffith will return earlier. James I. Dissette is spending the summer at the Belvedere club, Charlevoix, Mich. With him are his daughters, Mrs. Leslie Lee and her children, and Mrs. James A. Zinn of Highland Park, Mich. . . . Mr. and Mrs. John E. Messick returned yesterday evening from a stay at the Edgewater Beach hotel in Chicago. Dr, and Mrs. Gerald W. Gustafson; are at home after a two weeks’ vacation trip to northern Indiana and Michigan. , . , Miss Beth Anderson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Ariderson, will go to West Lafayette next week to attend the festivities in connection with the Purdue university prom’ Thursday and Friday. She will be the guest of George O'Neil, a member of Phi Gamma Delta fraternity.
Alvin M. Owsleys to Move to Muncie
MISS ELIECE AIMAN, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Burrell Wright, is spending the summer at the University of Chicago, where she is studying international relations. Her brother, Pierre Aiman, still is at Ft. Riley, Kas. Mrs. Clarence Alig and her children are looking forward to the visit early in August of Miss Hope Irwin, Washington. She will arrive Aug. 4 for a week's stay. In past summers the Aligs have vacationed with Miss Irwin at Mackinac island, Mrs. Alvin M. Owsley will be in town next week from the Owsleys’ summer home at Leland, Mich., to superintend the shifting of the family lares and penates from their Washington blvd. residence to a new home in Muncie. . . . The Fred Bates Johnsons are at their summer place at Crystal lake, Michigan. Mr. Johnson will return to Indianapolis next week-end. Mr, and Mrs, C. H. Beach have moved out to their country home at 80th st, and Spring Mill road for the summer. They have as their house guests Mrs. Beach's sister, Mrs. Lawrence Gegner, and Dr.
Gegner and daughter, Anne, of Chicago. The Gegners will be here for another two weeks.
On Exhibit at Art Museum
FOUR FAMOUS PAINTINGS from the Helena Woolworth McCann collection have been received by John Herron Art museum as a loan from the Winfield foundation of New York which administers the collection, The late Mrs. McCann was a well-known art patron. One of the paintings, a portrait by Sir Anthony Van Dyck, 17th century Flemish master, has been placed on exhibition in one of the museum’s main galleries. The other three are “Portrait of a Man” by Cornelis de VosyxSFrancis de Coligny” by Francois Clouet and “Portrait of Henry DunNas, Esq.,” by John Hoppner. The Van Dyck, a very large vas, is a portrait of Polyxena Spinola, Marquise Deleg Dyck was considered second only to Rubens among Flemish artists of his time. Wilbur D. Peat, museurh director, received the four pictures from the collection for which h& expressed a preference. The Winfield foundation is sending similar loans to other prominent museums.

Present Plays Today at Hilltop Camp
Times Special NASHVILLE, Ind. July 18.—Presentation of four plays today will mark the close of the first month’s activities at Hilltop camps near
here. The summer camps for children are the Hilltop camp for girls and the Brown County camp for boys. At 3 p. m, the younger campers were to give “Whim-Wham,” a fairy play, “Pablo and the Princess” and “Heart Attack” in the out-door theater. A group of older campers will present “Little Women” at 8 o'clock. Mrs. Harriett Mueller, Lafayette, directed the plays. Church Center Opens
'|'To Service Men Today
Mr. and Mrs. H. E. W' jglesworth will be hosts for the opening of the center for service men this afternoon and tomorrow at Roberts Park Methodist church. The center was inspected by the public yesterday and opens to the men today. Serving on committees for the center are Dr. S. L. Martin, Willis Peelle, Rev. C. A. Shake and Rev. Guy Carpenter, program; Mesdames James Haston, Jesse South and Walter Gingery, food; Mesdames W. H. Herbst, W. H. Day and Sexson Humphreys, cadettes;, Martin, Herbert Lacy, Otis Kirkpatrick and C. W. Duncan, house furniture and supplies, and Mrs. Charles Newman, magazines and books. The center is sponsored by the 67 Methodist churches in the Indianapolis district.
