New Method Eliminates

Plaster Cast in Favor Of Metal Brace.

DENVER, July 17 (U.P.)'—Dr. Roger . Anderson, Seattle orthopedic surgeon, today described a new method of repairing broken bones

which he said permitted quick heal- |}

ing and eliminated use of a plaster cast even for compound fractures.

Dr, Anderson, speaking at the an-| fi

nual convention of the Interna-

tional college of surgeons, said his] j

new method involves the use of a light metal brace weighing less

than a pound which would permit |$

a man with a broken leg to walk | SH ;

away on crutches, The method, he explained, calls for placement of metal pins in the bone near the fracture, then setting the bone after study with portable X-ray equipment and holding it firm with the light brace.

Implications Are Grave

The cancellation of the consulzi representation, reminiscent of tr: expulsion of Italian and Germ: consular officials months bef: going to war with those countriz: holds grave implications for futi.: relations. - The meeting of Finnish Fi: Marshal Carl Gustaf Mannerhei: with Adolf Hitler and the recq:! report of a high Finnish honor Ii: stowed upon Emperor Hirohito = Japan were illustrative of rect; mit axis tendencies of Finland. i Many here believe Finland | helplessly unable to throw off ‘i= axis yoke, but sympathy, it is he in official quarters, cannot be pg: mitted to cover too many offenses. ‘Secretary of State Cordell Hull said last Nov. 12 that he had &iformed Mr. Procope that the r::l issue was whether the Finns shall, over and above necessary defen:: requirements, furnish extrem:ly valuable aid to the Germans In their efforts to blockade the shi’ment of American and British su;plies to Russia. Mr. Hull emphasized that te! tions with Finland would dep upon the extent to which Finlind becomes an active war partner ot Germany. Finnish sources have asserted th ot Finland is not becoming an aciive ally of Germany against the uni::d nations, but developments have not always borne out those assertion: | Finnish authorities on July 17, 1941, notified the American legatibn in Helsinki that “in view of wgitime conditions” consular matics should be handled entirely throuza the Finnish foreign ministry rater than directly ‘with local authoriti:s. The United States yesterday s::ut Finland a note saying that “in d¢nying American consular officers presently in Finland their trealy rights in connection with the reoresentation of American interests

had determined the basis upon which American consular Tepre- te sentation was maintained in Fin land. \ The United States has two c¢: sular officials in Helsinki.
