Two Co-operate, U.S. Gets Soldier
PHILADELPHIA, July 16 (U. P.).—Two Philadelphia businessmen pooled a job, a family and a crippled arm to provide the army with another soldier. Robert H, Stern, 34, turned his printing business over to his friend—Leopold W, von Seldeneck, 36, an investment banker—and joined the army. ° Mr. von Seldeneck, who has a crippled arm and cannot serve in the army, will operate the printing business without compensation and turn the profits over to Mr, Stern’s wife, Charlotte, and" their. daughter, Deborah Ann, 4. “Separately we couldn't do much to help,” they said. “Together we can put at least one man in uniform.”

WASHINGTON, July 16 (U. P)— Conversion of the alcohol beverage industry to war production has provided more alcohol for making synthetic rubber than plants presently planned can handle. Fraser M. Pmoffat Jr. recently resigned chief of the alcohols and solvents section of the war production board, said the WPB had offered to divert 20C,000,000 gallons of alcohol to the Rubber Reserve Corp. during 1943 for making butadiene, one of the basic ingredients of synthetic rubber. The RRC reported, however, actual consumption next year would be 000 gallons. /
