Water as Fuel

For Autos Seen

NEW ORLEANS, July 4 (U. P.). —Louis A. Block, retired real estate operator and amateur chemist, said today he had the answer to Eastern gasoline rationing in “hydrolene,” a fuel he claims is 50 per cent ordinary water. Other than describing the other half as a “new species of hydrocarbon,” the 59-year-old inventor would say little pending a visit to the bureau of standards at Washington where scientists will test the fuel, Mr. Block said he had two formulas, one for automobiles and one for airplanes. During a demonstration yesterday, hydrolene propelled an automobile 23.7 miles on one gallon, compared to 22.8 miles for gasoline, _ “If it'll help win the war the government is welcome to it,” he said.
