CONTINUE FIGHT FOR PARK JOB
Members of the Mayor's
Committee Again Rap Rooney Quster.
The mayor's advisory committee on recreation has issued a statement in support of its request that the recently abolished job of assistant city recreational director be restored.
The committee's statement fol- - committee being because of a generally expressed demand for improved recreation for Indianapolis. After study of the situation, the committee has acted in an advisory capacity to the park board, which is the administrative body for the recreation department.
Service Appreciated
“The park board has, we think, heen appreciative of the volunteer service rendered by the committee in analyzing the recreational needs (of the. community, and the singere effort to find ways to meet these needs. For the past two years the working relationship between the committee and the park board has, ‘We feel, provided a constructive force for the improvement of the recreation department. “At this time, the committee has| two points which we wish to discuss, with the hoard. “I. In the spring of 1940, our ex-| panding program indicated the need for an assistant director of recreation, to assume the responsihility for program planning, training and jpersonnel. The park hoard accepted this suggestion, and the services of ‘Mr. Rooney were obtained. Feel Need Greater This Year
“In the opinion of the committee, 1942 presents an even greater need for an assistant director of recreation in Indianapolis. In the past two years, Southside, Keystone, Ray st. and Northwest community centers have been opened. We have ingugurated a winter program at Mupicipal Gardens, provided for a full time program at Christian park, and have co-operated = with the

ners of the William Lowe Bryan scholarships for next year.
